Melting & Casting Guidelines

  • Melt the #570 master alloy together with fine gold in a clean crucible.
  • Use a small amount of boric acid flux when necessary.
  • Avoid carbon-based fluxes such as soda ash and saltpeter.
  • Stir molten metal thoroughly before pouring to ensure uniform mixing.
  • Follow the recommended casting and flask temperatures for the desired gold karat.
  • Gypsum-bonded investment is recommended for casting.

Fabrication & Annealing

The #570 alloy is suitable for sheet, plate, and wire fabrication.

  • Clean ingots thoroughly before rolling or drawing.
  • Reduce the material by approximately 50% between annealing cycles.
  • Anneal at 704°C (1300°F) for 20 minutes.
  • Quench promptly in water after annealing, following the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Clean surface oxidation after annealing using an appropriate jewelry pickling solution.
  • Avoid excessive annealing, which can result in grain growth and reduced finished-product strength.

Remelting Recommendations

For remelting, use a combination of scrap and fresh alloy material. The manufacturer's technical sheets provide different recommendations: one specifies 30% scrap with 70% fresh mix, while the newer sheet specifies 50% fresh mix.

Remove surface oxidation from sprues and buttons before remelting.
